CSR Activity

A total of 21 Sysmex employees had volunteered to be “Food Rescue Hero” in the Greener Sysmex Food Surplus Program which was one of SMA’s Greener Sysmex activities in FY2019.

The Food Surplus Program is a collaboration effort with Kechara Soup Kitchen Society a non-profit organization to re-channel surplus food from hypermarkets to the needy across the nation. Besides its focus on contributing to the community, the program also helps to reduce food waste and protects our environment and thus fulfilling two of our Greener Sysmex core values.

We embarked on this journey in September 2019. SMA Food Heroes have been actively collecting surplus foods from Tesco Hypermarkets in Puchong and Mutiara Damansara every weekend and delivering them to the designated locations. These locations include Old Folks Homes, Drug Rehab Centre and low-cost flats with underprivileged community. Among the foods collected were vegetables, fruits and pastries. Over a 6 months period, we have completed 62 collections as of 1 March 2020. More than 3000kg of surplus food and 400 packs of surplus pastries were saved through this program ! An estimated total of 5,000 meals were prepared from this surplus food to feed a few hundred underprivileged folks from these poor communities. Thanks to Angie Ng and her team for leading this meaningful and engaging Greener Sysmex project.
