CSR Activity

As part of the FY2014 team building program, Sysmex Malaysia decided to build a home for an underprivileged Orang Asli (local aborigines) family, Norizan & Perina as part of our Greener Sysmex projects. Over a period of 4 days(15 to 19 August 2014), Sysmex Malaysia staff sacrificed their weekends to collaborate with EPIC Home (Extraordinary People Impacting Community) which is a non-profit organization that aims to provide sustainable homes for the orang asli community in Malaysia, to complete the house.

Norizan, Perina and their 4 children were living in a dilapidated shack measuring only 200 sq ft in an Orang Asli village, Kampung Buloh Telor located in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor. With a monthly household income of less than RM 900, Norizan was unable to provide their family with a safe and decent home. Therefore this project brought a lot of joy to Norizan and family when 47 of Sysmex Malaysia’s employees built a 400 sq ft house (4 module home) and repair their existing kitchen.

Building the house was not an easy task but the Sysmex’s team demonstrated great teamwork and Sysmex competencies to complete the built with the guidance and assistance from the master builder and specialists. To prepare for the building project, Sysmex Malaysia’s employees were required to attend a Builder Basics Workshop to equip them with the right set of skills and knowledge to build the house.

It was a meaningful teambuilding for the Sysmex’s team and on the final day, all our hard work, sweat and commitment were paid off by the Norizan family smiling and beaming in gratitude as they bashfully thanked Sysmex Malaysia and EPIC Homes. The burden of providing shelter for his family has been lifted by the Greener Sysmex teamwork and Norizan can now focus on ensuring his family has enough food, his children have the equipment they need for school and their family will be raised in a safe environment.
